Teeth Grinding

Occlusal Splint

Occlusal Splint.

Many people grind their teeth at night. Because it happens while you are asleep, it is an unconscious habit, but it can be quite damaging to your teeth and cause other problems. Over time, the habit of grinding your teeth can cause problems with your jaw joint (TMJ – temporomandibular joint). Your jaw may become overly tense and click on opening and closing. This can cause temporal headaches, soreness in the facial muscles and significant wearing away of the teeth.

Treatment is now available in the form of a device called an occlusal splint. This acrylic device is worn at night and effectively resets the jaw joint to prevent further grinding.
